In a show-stopping announcement at the end of the two-hour long programme at the San Diego Comic Con, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, announced that Brie Larson would play Captain Marvel.
On October 2014, Marvel studios announced that its first standalone female superhero film would be based on Captain Marvel. However, there was no mention of which actor would play the role.
Academy Award winner Brie Larson has now been signed for the film. Brie Larson shared her excitement over her Twitter account with a touch of the cap:

Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers first made an appearance in Marvel’s Super-Heroes No. 13, published in 1968. Danvers’s primary role, despite being a NASA security chief and former Air Force officer, was to be a love interest for the male hero. Although the character went through a series of enhancements, it was only under the wing of writer Kelly Sue DeConnick in 2012, that Danvers developed clarity and gained momentum in the series. The movie has been reportedly inspired by this run.
With a slew of Marvel moves lined-up for release, Captain Marvel is scheduled for release in 2019.
Earlier, there were speculations about a solo Black Widow movie. Kevin Feige, said, “I would say certainly the one [movie] creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow.” However, there has been no confirmation on that front.

There were also a number of other announcements dropped at the Comic-Con. New trailers for Wonder Woman and Justice League, as well as the first look of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them were released.
Meanwhile, Kurt Russell was officially announced as Star Lord’s father in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Sylvester Stallone will also be seen in the movie.
