Lead actor and director Ben Affleck has said that he will halt work on the next Batman film unless things come together in a way that he thinks is “really great”.

The actor had previously stated that the movie would begin  shooting by early 2017 with a projected release date in 2018. He has now altered his stance by saying that if things do not move in a direction he is comfortable with, he will cancel the project.

The 44-year old actor told The Guardian that ideally he saw himself directing the film and starring in it. However, development on the project has not been positive according to him. “It’s not a set thing and there’s no script,” he said. “If it doesn’t come together in a way I think is really great I’m not going to do it.”

The Academy Award winning actor said he was simply unwilling to make a bad Batman movie, especially as he is trying to revive his career. He said, “I’m definitely going to make sure I have something that is special—there’s not enough money in the world to make a mediocre version of Batman worth it.”

Affleck’s comments come in the wake of reports that the DC blockbuster Suicide Squad was written in a span of just six weeks. Hardcore DC comics fans and critics had panned the film. Nevertheless, Suicide Squad had a tremendous box office collection worldwide.
