La La Land (2016) and Whiplash (2014) director Damian Chazelle will direct a biopic on astronaut Neil Armstrong. The film is currently in pre-production and will go on floors mid-2017.

Ryan Gosling, who starred in Chazelle’s La La Land, has been roped in to play Armstrong. The project is an adaptation of James Hensen’s book First Man: The Life Of Neil Armstrong. Spotlight co-writer Josh Singer adapted the book for the silver screen.
Gosling’s name has been attached with the project since 2015. However, he only officially confirmed his involvement as the year wound to a close. According to reports, Gosling was waiting to complete his ongoing commitments before making the announcement.
