Prinz Von Anhalt Gives Touching Eulogy As Gabor Is Laid To Rest

Actress Zsa Zsa Gabor was laid to rest in a traditional Catholic funeral mass on 30th December. The actress passed away on December 16th at the age of 99. She had been bed-ridden after a car-crash in 2002.

Gabor’s husband – Frederic Prinz Von Anhalt – led the service with a touching, yet bizarre tribute. During his 40-minute speech, Anhalt spoke of all the times he had ‘fun’ with his wife. “We met the Popes, presidents, we went to the White House, Washington, D.C., the Queen of England. You name it — we’ve been there. We’ve been around the world together. We had fun. Lots of fun. And then in 2002, she had a car accident.”

He also briefly touched upon their rather unconventional marriage. They met because Anhalt wanted to take a picture with a celebrity. When they met again, Gabor introduced him to reporters as her fiance, much to Anhalt’s shock. A year later, Gabor told Anhalt that they’d be married in three days.

This was Gabor’s ninth marriage, and Anhalt’s seventh. They were together for close to thirty years, until Gabor’s death. Despite Gabor’s status as a celebrity, her funeral mass was attended mostly by the press photographers and reporters covering the event.

Anhalt said this was because Gabor had outlived most of her friends.”Lots of people she outlived, so most of her friends aren’t here anymore anyhow. And other friends, they went on vacations. Colorado, Acapulco, to have a good time,” von Anhalt said.

“Her life was only the red carpet and nothing else,” von Anhalt explained. “She loved it so much.” But what she didn’t adore was actually attending the events that provided the carpet. “She only wanted to enjoy the red carpet, she didn’t want to sit inside. Inside was boring — totally boring.”

Anhalt also vowed to keep sending Gabor flowers, a ritual he followed during her lifetime.  “As long as I live, I will get her flowers every week,” he said.
