Director Marjane Satrapi Leaves Dhanush’s Hollywood Debut

Dhanush’s planned Hollywood debut, The Extraordinary Journey of The Fakir is set for a major change. Reports suggest that that the Iranian-French director and author Marjane Satrapi, who had signed on to direct the project, will not be part of the film anymore.

The reason behind the recent development is unclear and the makers are yet to release an official statement regarding this. It was earlier said that the film’s shooting would begin in early 2017, but reports now suggest that the filming might be pushed to late next year.

The film is an adaptation of French author Romain Puértolas’s novel The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir Who Got Trapped In An Ikea Wardrobe. The novel, which came out in 2014, has been translated into 35 languages. It tells the story of a pilgrimage taken by a conman from India to an IKEA store  in Paris. The film follows a wild storyteller from New Delhi who falls in love with a woman when he reaches Paris, but accidentally gets deported along with a group of African refugees against his choice.

Apart from Dhanush, the film has a huge star cast including actress Uma Thurman, Alexandra Daddario of True Detective fame, Captain Phillips actor Barkhad Abdi, and Seema Biswas.

Dhanush is currently working on his directorial debut Power Paandi, starring Rajkiran in the lead role, with Nadhiya, Chaya Singh and Prasanna playing supporting characters.
