Fewer releases this Friday, with most being reserved for the second and third week of August. Here’s a look at some of the films hitting the screens tomorrow — some big releases, and some not so big.

It’s an Imtiaz Ali film, so one can expect a foreign location, a bubbly, manic pixie heroine and a slightly lost hero who gains more clarity after falling in love. There’s also the coming together of Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma for the third time, after Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
A romantic-comedy, the film was initially named The Ring, a far cry from the horror film. The story revolves around Harry and Sejal, set in Europe. Gujarati girl Sejal loses her engagement ring. Punjabi boy Harry, who is a tour guide in Europe, tries to help her find it. In between, like most rom-com, they fall in love.
There’s also the use of the word ‘intercourse’, which CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani was against. In fact, he stopped the trailer from releasing because of that word. He also sorely lost an open challenge he gave to Mirror Now about clearing the promo if he got one lakh votes of support from the public.
Varnyathil Aashanka
Malayalam actor Kunchacko Boban veers away from his chocolate boy roles and sports a thug look in Sidhart Bharathan’s film. He plays a thief called Kavta Sivan, and will explore a bit of politics in this film. He isn’t the only hero though. Actor Asif Ali plays the second hero. The rest of the cast includes actors Sharafudheen, Chemban Vinod and Shine Tom Chacko in crucial roles.
Shot in Thrissur, Vadakkancherry, and Kochi, the film is touted to be a political satire. The film is bankrolled by Ashiq Usman Productions, with music by Prashant Pillai.
Sathuradi 3500

Silverscreen.in Copyrighted PhotosThe film translates to ‘3500 Square Feet’. From the movie stills, one gets the feeling it’s just another romantic film. However, the trailer indicates something else. Starring Rahman, Iniya, Nikhil Mohan, Swati Dixit, and Manobala, the film is reportedly based on a true story.
Directed by Stephen, the plot is inspired from the true stories of people who experienced the supernatural presence. Iniya plays a possessed woman in the film, too. Claiming to be far away from the run-of-the-mill horror films, the sound effects and music is composed by Ganesh Raghavendra.
Pratap Pothen, Kovai Sarala, MS Bhaskar, and Saravan Subbaiah are cast in supporting roles. The film is sadly one of the last projects of the late cinematographer Ananda Kuttan.
Aakkam

Silverscreen.in Copyrighted PhotosSet in a rural town in Tamil Nadu, Aakkam is directed by Veludoss Gnanasamantham and stars newcomers Sathish Raavan and Vaidehi in the lead. Comedy actor Srinivasan, best known as Powerstar, is in this film too.
There’s action, mayhem, protests, and lots of contemplation in this film, woven into a love story. Music is by Srikanth Deva and the film is produced by E Selvam.
