Yami Gautam’s Character In Sarkar 3 Is Unlike Most Of Her Roles

Yami Gautam will reportedly play a character with shades of grey in Ram Gopal Varma’s third installment of Sarkar. The actress, who is known for usually playing the bubbly girl-next-door, will be playing a negative character for the first time.

“I am sure this role will take away all those adjectives that people are so used to associating with me. That’s the whole idea of taking up this role,” she was quoted saying.

The actress confessed being apprehensive at first, but shrugged it off after a bit of convincing from the makers. “The moment I was approached, even I had this question, ‘why me?’. The casting director then said that they have all seen me as the pretty and happy-go-lucky girl, so they wanted me to see how it feels to hold a gun and shoot. I still had my apprehensions. Later they shot some no-makeup pictures of me and I was surprised and instantly said yes,” she said.

Yami was last seen in the recently released film Kaabil, playing a blind girl along with Hrithik Roshan.

Loosely based on the life of late politician Bal Thackeray, Sarkar was first released in 2005 in which Amitabh Bachchan’s character had a Godfather-like avatar to it. Abhishek Bachchan played his son, Shankar. The second Sarkar film was released in 2008, with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan playing the role of Anita Rajan.

In Sarkar 3 Amitabh reprises his role of the Maharashtrian politican Subhash Nagre. The film also stars Manoj Bajpayee, Jackie Shroff, Ronit Roy, and Amit Sadh. Music is composed by Pritam Chakraborty. The film is slated for a mid-March release.
