Varun is seen working with a sewing machine while Anushka is seen meticulously doing embroidery work.

Directed and written by Sharat Katariya of Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015) fame, the film will promote the idea of ‘Made in India’. In a press release from last year, Varun had said, “From Gandhiji to Modiji, our country’s leaders have always endorsed the mantra of Made in India. With Sui Dhaaga, I am proud to take their message to millions of movie lovers in a manner that is entertaining and relevant.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Anushka said, “Sui Dhaaga is a story of self-reliance that I believe will connect to the grassroots level with every Indian.”

Given the video they released on October 2 last year, it’s clear that the film will be based on Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of focusing on promoting Indian products and cloth.

Considering it’s been 70 years since Gandhi was shot dead by Nathuram Godse, the film’s team couldn’t have picked a better time to spread the sentiments behind their project.

Bankrolled by Yash Raj Films, the film is slated for an October 2 release this year.

Government initiatives seemed to be the current flavour of the season for Bollywood. The widely received, Akshay Kumar’s film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, was seen as an endorsement of the Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
