Actor Shah Rukh Khan and the co-producer of his movie Raees, Excel Entertainment, have reportedly been asked to record their statements in connection with the death of a man at Vadodara railway station during the promotion of the film in January this year. According to a PTI report in the Indian Express, the police have given SRK and the producers a week to have their statements taken.
Earlier this month, a judicial magistrate’s court had ordered the Government Railway Police to submit an inquiry report on the incident within 45 days. Before that, a man named Solanki had asked a Vadodara court to direct the Railway Police to file a case against the Bollywood actor. Solanki filed the case on behalf of Farheed Khan Pathan, a local politician who died during Raees’s promotions in the city.

Farheed Khan Pathan suffered a heart attack when SRK’s train – the August Kranti Rajdhani Express – arrived at Vadodara station. Khan had boarded the train at Mumbai Central, and was enroute to Delhi as part of his promotional campaign ‘Raees by Rail’. Fans of the actor gathered at Vadodara station, and when the train arrived, the crowd went berserk. The police had to resort to a mild lathi-charge when the crowd banged the train’s window panes and even fell on top of each other once the train halted.
Farheed died, while several others were reportedly injured in the melee.
Speaking to PTI, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Railways) Tarun Barot said, “Earlier too, we had sent summons to Excel officials. However, instead of appearing in person, they had sent their lawyers, which is not allowed. It is recommended that both parties give their statements in person. If they do not comply, we will inform the court and take action as per its order.”
