Kiara Advani, who has grown up listening to the original songs considers the new one an ode to Prabhu Deva. “I am his huge fan,” she adds. On working with Shahid Kapoor, Kiara says “I was nervous about matching up to his skills, but he was super fun to work with. We were in sync from the word go.”

The song has spawned various remixes of late. Rahman collaborated with Ranjit Barot and Suresh Peters for the Season 6 of MTV Unplugged that aired last year. Before recording the revamped version, Rahman had asked fans for lyric suggestions on social media. Subsequently, the last stanza was revamped and included lines which talked about demonetization and Trump.

American hip-hop artistes Will.i.am and Cody Wise too adapted the song in 2014 into ‘It’s my birthday’. The song that began with Will.i.am saying ‘New Urvasi, Urvasi’ had topped the charts in the United Kingdom.

In October last year, Benny Dayal collaborated with Jasim to bring out a new version of the song fused with Khaled’s popular Arab number ‘Didi’.

Of late Bollywood has been flooded with remixes of popular old numbers. The latest one is where Nora Fatehi recreates Sushmita Sen’s hit song ‘Dilbar Dilbar’. The song features in John Abraham’s film Satyameva Jayate. There’s also ‘Ek Do Theen’ from Baaghi 2. The song featuring Jacqueline Fernandez, which comes as an item number in the movie, originally belonged to the 1988 movie Tezaab and featured Madhuri Dixit. The original version was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. The new version sung by Shreya Ghoshal was not loved by the Twitterati. Jacqueline Fernandez was trolled so badly that stars like Anil Kapoor, Salman Khan had to tweet in her support.
