Ranbir Kapoor Will Not Star In Kishore Kumar Biopic Due To Time Constraints

Actor Ranbir Kapoor, contrary to initial reports, might not star in the upcoming Kishore Kumar biopic. Director Anurag Basu told PTI that the actor decided to opt out of the project due to date constraints. “The biopic is definitely happening. Ranbir Kapoor is not doing it right now. If I start it in 2017 then Ranbir will not be able to do it, I will go with some other actor,”Basu was quoted by PTI as saying. According to some reports, actor Aamir Khan is now being considered to play Kishore Kumar, the legendery singer-actor, in the biopic.

Ranbir, reportedly, had told the makers that he could do it only if the project was pushed to 2018.

Meanwhile, Ranbir has two biopics in pipeline. It was recently announced that Ranbir Kapoor will play his grandfather Raj Kapoor in a biopic produced by the family-owned production company, RK films. He also has another biopic on Sanjay Dutt with director Rajkumar Hirani. The movie is scheduled for a 2017 Christmas release. The actor also awaits the release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, directed by Karan Johar. The movie is gearing up for a Diwali release. Another long expected release is Jagga Jasoos with actress Katrina Kaif.

Aamir’s next release is a sports biopic on Olympic wrestler coach Mahavir Singh Phogat, titled Dhangal. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the project is currently underway. Kishore Kumar is one of the most revered personalities in Indian Cinema. He holds eight Filmfare awards for best male playback singer and the holds the rare distinction of winning the most number of Filmfare awards in that category. He also has an award named after him called the Kishore Kumar Award, for contributions to Hindi cinema.
