Ranbir Kapoor-Starrer Sanjay Dutt Biopic Titled ‘Sanju’

After months of speculation, the makers of the Sanjay Dutt biopic have finalised the title of the film: It will now be known as Sanju. Starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, the movie will center around the controversial star’s life, his brush with terrorism, arrest and his tumultuous personal life.

The film sees Paresh Rawal play Dutt’s father Sunil and Manisha Koirala as his mother Nargis. Dia Mirza plays Dutt’s wife Maanayata, while Karishma Tanna plays Madhuri Dixit. Anushka Sharma, Vicky Kaushal and Sonam Kapoor too are part of the film.

Sanjay Dutt has had a colourful past outside his career. He made his acting debut in 1981 and has since appeared in more than 100 Hindi films. Dutt was arrested under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act in April 1993 and has served jail time.

Charges of terrorism were dropped, but he was convicted of illegal possession of weapons. After serving his sentence with good behaviour and conduct, he was released on February 25, 2016.

After his first wife Richa Sharma died of a brain tumour in 1996, he married model Rhea Pillai, but that ended in a divorce. He was also rumoured to have had an affair with actress Madhuri Dixit, with whom he starred in a number of films back in the 90s. He is currently married to former actress Maanayata Dutt who is co-producing the film.

Sanju is directed by Rajkumar Hirani and is set to hit the screens on June 29, 2018.
