Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Indu Sarkar’ Cleared By Revising Committee

Indu Sarkar release

After much deliberation, Madhur Bhandarkar’s Indu Sarkar has been cleared by CBFC’s revising committee. The film has fewer cuts compared to the 14 cuts that were initially demanded by the CBFC, led by Pahlaj Nihalani.

The director took to Twitter to make the announcement.

Earlier, a woman named Priya Paul Singh, claiming to be the daughter of Sanjay Gandhi, filed a writ petition against the CBFC and the makers to stay the release of the film. Paul believed that the film’s trailer did not portray Sanjay and the former PM Indira Gandhi, in good light. The Bombay High Court rejected her petition.

Indu Sarkar is set against the backdrop of the emergency, and is perceived to be damaging to the memory of the late Indira Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi. Senior Congress leaders had spoken out against the film, and Sanjay Nirupam had recently asked for a special screening of the film, before it went to the Censors. His demands were rejected by both Madhur Bhandarkar and CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani

Indu Sarkar stars Kriti Kulhari, Neil Nitin Mukesh, and Anupam Kher in lead roles, and will release on July 28.
