‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ Vs. CBFC: Imtiaz Ali Says His Film Is Made For A Universal Audience

Jab Harry Met Sejal, CBFC, Imtiaz

Imtiaz Ali, director of Jab Harry Met Sejal, hopes that the CBFC will see his film and realise it is not objectionable. He said that while he understands the board has its work cut out, his film is made for a universal audience.

Speaking at the launch of the second single from the film – ‘Beech Beech Main Hum‘ – Imtiaz Ali was asked about censorship troubles. He said, “See, I think the Censor Board obviously has to do its work, but when they will watch our film, I think probably they won’t find it inappropriate. Other than this I don’t have anything else to say.”

The Anushka Sharma-Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jab Harry Met Sejal has been in trouble ever since the Central Board of Film Certification – CBFC – took objection to the word intercourse in a trailer. The CBFC chairman Pahlaj Nihalani went on television and said the board will clear the film if at least 1 Lakh people voted for the word to be in. Nihalani put more conditions on it, saying that it will need to be families with children, above 18, and many more.

A week after the open challenge, Mumbai Mirror announced that the public had indeed voted in favour of the film. Nihalani, however, took the loss gracelessly.
