5 Point Someone ran into controversy when Bhagat claimed that although 70 % of the film was based on his book his name was mentioned only in the closing credits. The book is set in an IIT and portrays the lives of three young men studying in it, the film does not focus on any particular institution, but rather questions the working of the education system – especially engineering colleges.

Half Girlfriend is produced by Balaji Motion pictures, and Arjun Kapooor and Shraddha Kapoor play the roles of Madhav Jha and Riya Somani. Rhea Chakraborty plays the role of Samantha Myers, which Amy Jackson was reported as playing, initially. The music for the film is composed by Rishi Rich, an English-Indian independent music artist.
