Film On Rajiv & Sonia Gandhi’s Love Story Will Star Karanvir Bohra & Priya Banerjee

Television actor Karanvir Bohra will produce and act in a short bilingual film titled Ijazat, about the love story between former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and current President of the Congress party Sonia Gandhi. The film will be a bilingual in English and Italian, and will star Priya Banerjee (Jazbaa) as Sonia Gandhi.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Karanvir said,  “It is a simple story, which is made to create a different type of content. I’ve always been fascinated with classic love stories of the ’50s and the ’60s. They don’t write such stories or make such movies anymore.”

Karanvir also talked about how he came up with the idea for the film: “I was browsing through the Net, when I chanced upon the show, Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, with late Rajiv Gandhi. I was mesmerised by the way he spoke and the way he carried himself with such elegance. The way he would speak about Sonia Gandhi, how they met and how he mustered up the courage to seek permission from his mother.”

Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated on 21 May 1991 at Sriperumbudur, a town 40 kms from Chennai. The Supreme Court later confirmed that his assassination was a result of “personal animosity by the former LTTE cheif, Prabhakaran arising from his sending the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) to Sri Lanka and the alleged IPKF atrocities against Sri Lankan Tamils”.
