Celebrated fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee is a favourite among Bollywood actresses. Deepika Padukone, Sridevi, Vidya Balan, Rani Mukerji, Kajol, Aishwarya Rai – all swear by him. He was the designer designate at the Anushka Sharma-Virat Kohli wedding after which several women aspired to be a Sabyasachi bride.

Sabyasachi, who was at the India Conference in Harvard Business School, said, “I think, if you tell me that you do not know how to wear a saree, I would say shame on you. It’s a part of your culture, (you) need stand up for it,” while addressing Indian students there, reported PTI.

He also said that fashion is all about connecting and staying true to your roots. Dismissing popular claims that it is difficult to drape a saree, Sabyasachi said, “It’s a relationship of misunderstanding. It’s easy to wear a saree. Wars have been fought in saree. Grandmothers have slept in saree and have women up without any folds to it.”

Harvard Business School’s 15th edition of the India Conference 2018, is currently taking place with the conference aiming to bring together India’s thought leaders for a weekend of discussions and brainstorming sessions. Apart from Sabyasachi, the conference’s other speakers include Kamal Haasam, filmmaker Hansal Mehta, actress and politician Divya Spandana, writer Amish Tripathi, journalists Nidhi Razdan and Rahul Kanwal, and others.
