Dharmendra To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award From USK Foundation

Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra will be awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the USK Foundation for his outstanding contribution to Indian Cinema. The award ceremony will take place on January 16. The award comes 20 years after he won the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.

The USK Foundation, which is headed by Usha Kakade, has also announced the recipients of the Urja award, a commendation for contributions in various fields. The winners include veteran actor Naseerudin Shah, popular writer Chetan Bhagat, musician Pt. Shivakumar Sharma, business magnet Anuradha Desai, actress Raveena Tandon, Jinkya Firodiya of Kinetic engineering, young entrepreneur Ananya Birla, tennis player Prarthana Thombare, and educator Dr Vishwajeet Kadam. 

The awards were formed in 2015 to recognise personalities who have performed exceedingly well in their respective fields. The Usha Foundation is a non-profit organisation that works towards women and children’s empowerment and related social issues. 

Earlier in December 2016, 81-year-old actor Dharmendra had been hosptalised. He has been recovering well since then. 

Dharmendra is best remembered for his iconic role in the cult film Sholay. In addition to being a member of the 14th Lok Sabha, Dharmendra was also awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, in 2012.
