Nandita Das has said that the upcoming Cannes festival is a great platform for her film, Manto. She also said that the team was hoping to have a ‘Manto evening’ at the event as part of something special for fans.
“It’s more of a curtain raiser. We’re taking a small break from our shoot to go to Cannes because I believe it’s a great platform. I’ve been on the jury a couple of times. HP Studios, who are one of our producers, are also one of the main sponsors of the film festival, so we are getting the opportunity through them primarily to showcase it in a more mainstream space.
“We’ll be sharing the film, of course, for the sales agents and buyers, but have something special for the film goers and lovers at the festival,” she added.
Manto has Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the titular role. He plays writer Saadat Hassan Manto, widely considered one of South Asia’s greatest writers, in the film.
