After having brought up two sons, an elderly couple discovers that a third child was on the way – this forms the premise of the movie Badhaai Ho.

While Ayushmann Khuranna plays the eldest son, Gajraj Rao appears as the father and Neena Gupta essays the mother who becomes pregnant towards the twilight of her fertility.

The tone of the movie is set right from the start of the trailer where the father breaks the news to his sons. An awkward father says, “You guys are about to have a visitor,” alluding to the subject. The youngest son revolts at the mention of the word ‘visitor’ and says, “I’m not giving up my space for anyone” clearly missing the father’s point.

Forget the younger one; even a baffled Khuranna comes to realize the news only when his father reiterates that it was in fact “a small visitor” that they were expecting.

Laced with humour, the ensuing tale is about how the couple has to deal with the judgmental family members, prying neighbours and their own internal conflicts.

Sanya Malhotra plays Khurana’s girlfriend in the movie. Their relationship too takes a hit because of his situation at home. “He is a nice guy but his family is a circus I don’t want to buy tickets to,” says her mother about Khuranna and his family.

Directed by Amit Sharma, who previously directed the Arun Kapoor-starrer Tevar, Badhaai Ho reminds the viewer of Khuranna’s debut movie Vicky Donor in terms of the niche themes the movies dealt with and the treatment employed by them.

While Sanya Malhotra awaits the release of Patakha on September 28, Khuranna too is awaiting the release of Andhadhun in which he plays a blind musician. Directed by Sriram Raghavan and featuring Tabu and Radhika Apte the movie releases on October 5.

Badhaai Ho releases on October 19.
