This week’s major Tamil release is Dhilluku Dhuddu 2, and Malayalam release is Kumbalangi Nights. The Fakir Of Venice releases in Hindi, and Yatra in Telugu.
Dhilluku Dhuddu 2
Directed by Rambhalla, DD2 is a sequel of the 2016 film of the same name. It is a horror comedy starring comedian turned actor Santhanam and Shritha Shivadas in the lead. The film also features Rajendran, Urvashi, Deepti and Bipin in supporting roles. Produced by Santhanam under the banner Handmade Films, music for the film is composed by Shabir, and cinematography is by Deepak Kumar Pathy.
Talking about the film at a press meet, the actor said that in DD2, for a change, ghosts will feel scared about the presence of humans. He also spoke about the success of the first part, in which audience particularly enjoyed the latter half of the film and the climax.
Directed by debutant Madhu C Narayanan, the film is jointly produced by Dileesh Pothan, Syam Pushkaran, and Fahadh Faasil under the banner of Fahadh Faasil and Friends Working Class Hero. Music for the film is by Sushin Shyam.
Said to be a family drama laced with romance, the film stars Shane Nigam, Soubin Shahir, Fahadh Faasil, Sreenath Bhasi and Matthew Thomas in the lead. This story about four brothers, and is said to be a clean humor.
Directed by Mahi V. Raghav, the film is a biopic on Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who served as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, and went on a 900-mile walking tour as part of his election campaign. The film stars Mammootty in the lead, who returns to Telugu cinema after nearly 27 years, and was last seen in Swati Kiranam in 1992.
Produced by Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devireddy under the banner 70mm Entertainments, the film also features Jagapathi Babu, Sudheer Babu, Suhasini Maniratnam, Ashrita Vemuganti, Rao Ramesh, Anasuya Bharadwaj and Posani Krishna Murali in pivotal roles. Music for the film is composed by K Krishna Kumar.
In an interview with The Hindu, Mammootty said that the film is not a biopic but an event-based one, which chronicles some important events from YSR’s life. “I did not mimic YSR, I just picked the soul. He is an entirely different personality. I will be a poor copy if I walk like him and talk like him. I didn’t do any research. Mahi did it and that’s enough, I just followed.”
The Fakir Of Venice
Directed by Anand Surapur, this film is a comedy drama starring Farhan Akhtar, Annu Kapoor and Kamal Sidhu in the lead. Music for the film is composed by A. R. Rahman and Sagar Desai. Cinematography is by Preetha Jayaraman and Deepti Gupta. The film was screened as opening night film at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles in April 2009. It is being released commercially now.
