Best stories from last week. Plus, some awesome photos.
The latest movie to have a lawsuit hurled at it was Komban. Accused of having content that would incite ‘communal tension’, the controversy had its producers and directors in a tizzy. That’s when we decided to write about this disturbing trend; of these ‘controversies’ that have begun to rhyme without reason.
Komban did hit theatres last Wednesday, though.

That aside, we also wrote some breezy stories. Halitha Shameem told us about the books she loves, actor Vinodhini revealed why she would never quit theatre, and in a quick interview, Living Smile Vidhya expressed her pleasure at Sanchari Vijay’s Best Actor Award for Nanu Avanalla Avalu – the Kannada film which was based on Vidhya’s autobiography.
Also, as soon as OK Kanmani‘s audio was launched, we quickly listed 11 underrated gems from previous Mani Ratnam-AR Rahman films that deserved more recognition.

All three films that we watched last week were forgettable. There was nothing new in Komban. The carefully built drama around Karthi, which is all about Karthi, his aruva, his toned muscles, and his really very hirsute limbs, could have done a lot more. Nanbenda was a string of somewhat funny gags connected by some songs and a couple of ‘emotional’ scenes while Sagaptham was very Vijayakanth like, except for a minor problem: Shanmuga Pandian was no Vijayakanth.

Our photographers had quite a week, too. AR Rahman patiently posed at the press meet that was held in KM Music Conservatory, and Maanga‘s audio launch was conducted on a grand scale. Later, Bobby Simha met the media to talk about Urumeen, and the audio of Vikram Prabhu’s Idhu Enna Maayam was launched.
