Our Sundays are usually very sedate, but this time around, it was very different. The Jigarthanda issue finally came to an end this week with the Nadigar Sangam president Sarath Kumar stepping in to voice his support; and actor Siddharth was very appreciative of this gesture and took to his Twitter account (which started it all) to thank the actor for ‘setting the record straight’. R Parthiepan even postponed his Kathi Thiraikathai Vasanam Iyakkam to make way for Jigarthanda and Sarabham and revealed that he might quit all social networking sites, but that’s a story for next week, we think. Thalaivasal Vijay joined the Thala 55 team while Dhanush’s Velaiyilla Pattathari got into trouble with some welfare groups in the city.

Monday: Bouncing Back

Here, we were getting hyped about Sridevi AND Kamal Haasan starring together again, only to be told that the ’80s dream girl won’t be a part of Drishyam after all (major sighing happened after this); KS Ravikumar agreed to release the audio of Sigaram Thodu with his Dasavatharam hero and the launch of Anjaan’s Telugu soundtrack was finally announced.

Tuesday: Festive Cheer
Actor Suriya at Anjaan Race Wars Game Launch Stills
Sandra Amy told us she’d be going up North soon and we took her very seriously indeed; an interesting Anjaan-inspiredmobile game was launched and a release date was set for Parthiepan’s KTVI. Tuesday was also the day Arvind Swamy officially confirmed his new film. The Roja actor will share screenspace with Jayam Ravi and Nayanthara in Thani Oruvan. And in a sad turn of events, actor Karthi was hospitalised for food poisoning and had to stay away from the Ramzan biriyani (we ate some on his behalf, though) and the Kaththi villain came to Chennai to shoot for the film.
We also went to this super cute event where actors Sathyaraja and Sibiraj adopted a dog rescued from the Porur building collapse. Also spotted were some crows and some ‘Doggy Style’ T-shirts. It’s not as bad as it sounds, really.

Wednesday: Surprise, and Some More

Wednesday was fun, mostly because we got to speak to Emraan Hashmi, and he had some enlightening things to say about Sandra Amy’s purported Bollywood film. Also, the shooting of Sandamarudham in Pollachi triggered lovely memories for Sarath Kumar and editor Praveen became a busy, busy boy. Music composer Anirudh officially announced the release date for his Chanceyilla and Atharvaa Murali gave us one hell of a heart attack (makeover alert). Also, Anjaan cleared the last hurdle on its way to the theatres.
Thursday: Ilaiyaraaja, and an Interview

It’s always awesome to listen to Ilaiyaraaja, but even we were surprised (well, shocked) when we heard the title of his latest track: Move Your Body, written by Dhanush and composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja for Vai Raja Vai. In other news, Samantha finished the first schedule of shooting for her movie with Vikram and immediately flew back to Hyderabad; the always fun Vadacurry team signed on for yet another movie and AR Murugadoss met some key Tamil political leaders to clarify some stuff.

Friday: A Taste of Jigarthanda

The Nanbenda team – lucky people that they are – left India for the more picturesque Bali; but Vijay Sethupathi did manage to cheer us up by staying here and signing up for a good cause while the adventure comedy Mundasupatti completed 50 days at the box office. Also, Jigarthanda released to great reviews while Sarabham followed was close on its heels.

Jigarthanda (Working Stills) starring Siddharth, Lakshmi Menon, Bobby Simha; directed by Karthik Subbaraj
Even though the director is not in front of the camera, his phantom presence is felt through-out Jigarthanda: in those oodles of Rajinikanth, the quirky Tarantino moments, and more importantly, in that rousing final scene. It’s a different Siddharth here; a different Simha, and a Karthik Subbaraj who is much more than what he seems.
Sarabham Full Songs
Sarabham’s second half unfolds in a rapid pace. There are twists and turns in quick succession. Yet, the suspense isn’t riveting, and we could quite predict a few of those ‘twists’. But debutant director Arun Mohan does manage to pique interest with the screenplay.
