I Had To Look Like A 17-Year-Old College Student: Radhika Madan On ‘Angrezi Medium’

After learning martial arts for her character in Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota (2019) and gaining 12 kgs for Pataakha (2018), Radhika Madan had signed on to play a schoolgirl in Homi Adajania’s Angrezi Medium. To adapt to this role, she had to take on a drastic diet, nutrition, and workout. In this process, the actress turned vegan.

Radhika, who says she is otherwise a foodie and fitness freak, had a month to transform. She said, “I was eating read meat for Pataakha and had a lot of body fat when I had gone to auditon for Angrezi Medium. Everyone was happy with my screen test, and that pushed me into getting into shape for the role.”

The actor said that it was tough to stick to such a difficult regime, “I had to look like a 17-year-old college student so I couldn’t gain muscle. I had to show some amount of baby fat. So, I could only do yoga and cardio to look lean. I also decided to eat vegan, and it really helped me get into the skin of the character. I feel the hard work has really paid off,” she says.

Following the regime put her character at the forefront. Radhika said, “My body language changed completely. Many people don’t believe that food plays an important part in the way you think. Eating vegan has made my mindset completely unadulterated and gave me a better perspective of things.”

Angrezi Medium, a Maddock Films production, directed by Homi Adajania, releases on March 13th, 2020
