Vanavarayan Vallavarayan: Audio Launch Report

Vanavarayan Vallavarayan is shaping up to be quite the interesting movie. For starters, the bromance flick is the first Yuvan Shankar Raja musical of the year 2014, and secondly, it sees the return of veteran actress, Sowcar Janaki, in an important role. What’s more interesting is the fact that the people behind the popular call taxi service, Fast Track, are producing this movie.

Director Bhagyaraj, who was present at the launch, was very excited about sharing the stage with ‘Pattu Maami’ from the original Ethir Neechal. He said, “she was one of the most original and spontaneous actresses of her time. I’m thankful to this team for bringing her back to Tamil cinema!” But the cynosure of all eyes, obviously, was actress Sowcar Janaki herself, whose youthful energy belied her true age. She declared that she was saddened by the current state of South Indian cinema. “Filmmakers have progressed to using North Indians for character roles as well. Even the production houses that favoured me at the height of my popularity, deserted me after a certain point. They must have thought that I’m not commercially viable anymore!” She credited the director of the flick, Raj Mohan and Mounam Ravi, the PRO for the movie, as the driving force behind her comeback.

Former RJ/VJ, Ma Ka Pa Anand, turns actor in this movie; playing Vallavarayan , the younger brother of actor Kreshna. While he doesn’t have a heroine in the flick, he insists he’s not sad at the prospect. “I already have a real life heroine – my wife. So I’m not worried about this!” he quipped.

As for the music, Yuvan Shankar Raja’s tunes stay true to film’s rural milieu. With heavy use of percussion instruments and lyrics by Snehan, the soundtrack is a different attempt by the composer.

Vanavarayan Vallavarayan is expected to hit theatres this month; but the official release date will be announced shortly.
