Out of the Ordinary: The Sigaram Thodu Audio Launch Report

The audio launch of Sigaram Thodu was one of those rare occasions where almost every attendee turned up on time and every guest kept his speech short (the heroine Monal Gajjar had a laughing-fit on stage, so her speech was the shortest). Vijay Sethupathy was made to say his signature Kumudha Happy Annachi dialogue, composer D Imman rendered the inspirational Sigaram Thodu number, and lyricist Madhan Karky recited a few catchy lines from the songs. Also, the gifted folk singer Anthony Dasan performed the Takku Takkunu number and Gana Bala gave a (slightly) long speech about penning the track Scene-u Scene-u.

Finally, singer Yesudas, (who has lent his voice for the song Anbulla Appa) followed this up with a fervent declaration on-stage that music director Imman is like his son.

Yes, things at the event were quite rhythmic, indeed. Until actor Sathyaraj (who was fondly renamed ‘Tom Cruise’ by Sigaram Thodu‘s director, Gaurav) started talking about his experience of being Vikram Prabhu’s father in the flick. Warm memories aside, Sathyaraj also had a few words to say about the documents (given by UTV Motion Pictures) that he had to sign before shoot. The actor expressed amusement at the clause that read, “If you don’t act well, then you will be replaced with another actor…” Talking about the futility of such clauses, Sathyaraj joked in his usual lollu-tone, “I don’t think one could make Kamal Haasan sign such documents. Because, you can’t tell Kamal Haasan that if he doesn’t act properly, he will be replaced by another actor.” And Kamal Haasan, who was there to encourage actor Vikram Prabhu, promptly burst into laughter.

Predictably, the audience went into a frenzy when Kamal Haasan wielded the mic. While many speakers were of the opinion that the ability to act was in Vikram Prabhu’s genes, Kamal Haasan expressed a different one, “although Vikram hails from one of the greatest families, he has worked hard to hone his skills. And that interest will help him grow,” he said.

He then duly released the audio, while KS Ravikumar, under whose tutelage Gaurav learnt filmmaking, received it. Actor Dhanush – clad in veshti, and sporting nerdy glasses – launched the trailer.

Sigaram Thodu is director Gaurav’s second film after Thoonga Nagaram. Monal Gajjar stars opposite Vikram Prabhu. The flick will hit theatres in September.

In other news, we also learnt that

1. Vikram Prabhu and Imman went to Don Bosco School and studied in the same class. Perhaps Imman realised that we were taken aback, so he quietly reassured us, “I swear I didn’t fail. Both of us studied together.”

2. When the team shot in Gangotri, Vikram Prabhu filmed several scenes in sub-zero temperature.

3. Sivakarthikeyan and Vikram Prabhu are close friends. “Bro, enna kashtam sollunga? We talk on those levels,” said Siva.

4. Dhanush and Vikram Prabhu work out in the same gym. But the Maryan star was quick to foresee our next question. “Naan gym-la enna panren-nu kekkareengala?”

5. Sathyaraj’s new sobriquet is Tom Cruise. He has done incredible stunts in Sigaram Thodu, said director Gaurav. Hence.
