Weekend Watch: A Preview – Vijay Sethupathi’s Kavan, Nayanthara’s Dora, Mammootty’s The Great Father & More

Kavan: 

This week’s big release is KV Anand’s Kavan, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Madonnna Sebastian. The pair is back after their first outing in the hit film Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum. The film has been promoted as a political thriller set in the backdrop of media organisations. 

Accoriding to one report, Vijay Sethupathi’s character could have the traits of television journalist Arnab Goswami. 

KV Anand’s earlier films Ayan, Ko and Anegan have all been commercial hits, and the same is expected of this film. Meanwhile, with back-to-back hits in 2016 and 2017, Vijay Sethupathi is also at a career-best high. Another big release coming up for him is Vikram Vedha, where he stars alongside R Madhavan. 

Kavan will also star actor-director T Rajender in a pivotal role and Akash Deep Saigan as the villain. 

The film has been bankrolled by AGS Entertainment and Hip Hop Tamizha has composed the music for it. 

Dora: 

Finally free of all the plagiarisms allegations raised against it, Dora, starring Nayanthara, is all set to release this Friday. This horror-thriller has been directed by debutante Doss Ramaswamy and also stars Thambi Ramiah, Harish Uthaman, and Sulile Kumar in pivotal roles. 

The movie was given an ‘A’ certificate by the CBFC, shocking the makers who claim that the film is “very children friendly.” The plot revolves around a possessed car and Nayanthara’s attempts to investigate it. 

Dora has been produced by A Sarkunam. According to reports, Nayanthara has performed her own stunts in the film, without help from doubles. 

The Great Father: 

The project was initially scheduled for a Christmas release in 2016, but following delays, is now set to finally release on 30 March. This dark thriller had fans on tenterhooks ever since the trailer released, with lead actor Mammootty’s menacing stare and machine gun

The Great Father has been directed by Haneef Adeni and produced by actor Prithviraj’s banner August Cinema, with Gopi Sunder composing the music. Tamil actor Arya will reportedly portray the villain. The female leads are Sneha and Mia George.

The movie faced a crisis after a supposedly crucial scene from the movie was leaked online just days before its theatrical release. 

Georgettan’s Pooram

The comedy film Georgettan’s Pooram is actor Dileep’s first release in six months, and expectations are riding high for him. The movie has been helmed by K Biju and will see State Award winner Rajisha Vijayan in the lead cast. This is her second movie after Anuragha Karikkin Vellam

Georgettan’s Pooram also stars Chemban Vinod, Vinay Forrt, Sharafudheen, and Renji Panicker. The film has been produced by Arun Gosh. 

Georgettan’s Pooram has music composed by Gopi Sunder. 

Kamboji: 

This music-thriller has been in the pipeline for a while now, and was initially slated to release in November last year. It will now finally release this Friday. Kamboji has been directed by Vinod Mankara and stars Vineeth and Lakshmi Gopalaswamy as Kathakali artistes. 

According to one report, demonitisation might have been the reason for the release delay. 

Kamboji has been produced by Lakshmi Padmanabhan with music composed by M Jayachandran. 

Naam Shabana: 

Naam Shabana, a spin-off from the 2015 movie Baby and is directed by Shivam Nair. Taapsee Pannu plays the lead role. Her character is on a mission to avenge the loss of someone she loves. Naam Shabana establishes the background of the role Taapsee played in Baby

The movie also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manoj Bajpayee, and Anupam Kher in pivotal roles. Akshay Kumar will also have an extended cameo. 

Naam Shabana has been produced by Neeraj Pandey and Shital Bhatia, with music composed by Rochak Kohli and Meet Bros.
