When an assistant of AR Murugadoss makes a movie, it feels like everybody takes notice. Add to it a sci-fi theme, some super cool music and a solid cast, it’s only natural that expectations go up. Appuchi Gramam has all of these factors going for it, and the audio launch of the movie managed to live up to expectations.

The packed event – not a seat was free – was one of the most fun in recent memory. The songs and trailer were met with huge applause from the audience., and when the movie’s lead actor Praveen Kumar got on stage, his adoring friends and relatives let loose screams, howls and wolf whistles. This treatment wasn’t reserved for the actor alone – even veteran Director Bharathiraja was treated to the same experience, and seemed surprised by it all.
Actress Suja Varunee, in a pretty kancheevaram saree, lent a touch of seriousness to the proceedings. In an impassioned plea to the media , the actress said,”I have been stereotyped as an item girl in the Tamil film world. All the roles I have been offered have a lot of glamour to them. I entered this industry when I was 13. My first few films as the lead were flops and then I got branded as a glamour heroine. This has given me great pain!” Suja further requested the media to not stereotype young actresses and to give them the freedom to do any role they want.
Given that AR Murugadoss was part of the audio launch, an extra effort was made by the guests present to make Kaththi and Actor Vijay references in their speeches. So, lead actor Praveen Kumar was called ‘Chinna Vijay‘; everybody wanted the movie to be as big a hit as Maan Karate‘ (another movie made by an AR Murugadoss assistant ) and the lead actress’ smile was compared to that of actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The director seemed amused by everybody’s attempts. He said,” I thank everybody for their wishes and affection towards me. But, we’re here to celebrate a film of my friend Vi Anand, not my career. He is very gutsy to do a village themed movie as his debut movie. I wish him all the best and I know that he will get the success he deserves!”
Nikil Murugan, who handles PR for the movie, came in for much praise from all the guests. From his quick wardrobe changes to his efficiency,nothing was spared. Producer Keyaar quipped, “Actresses need to learn how to change so quickly from Nikil. He might teach them a few new tricks!”
The audio composed by Vishal Chandrasekhar of Inam fame was released by Director Bharathiraja and received by AR Murugadoss. The movie is expected to release in June 2014.
